Snowy Surprises: Christmas Eve Travel Trouble
A Snowy Wonderland with Challenges
Christmas Eve might look like a snowy wonderland, but it's not all fun and games. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter weather alerts across the country. This means heavy snow, icy roads, and travel headaches for millions.
Millions on the Move
Millions of Americans are planning to travel for the holidays. AAA expects 122.4 million people to hit the road, rails, or skies. But with snow in the forecast, flights could be delayed, and roads might be slick.
Northeast Braces for Impact
The Northeast is already feeling the chill. A quick winter storm hit on Tuesday, causing schools to close early.
- New York: Up to 3 inches of snow.
- Massachusetts: Up to 5 inches.
- Maine and New Hampshire: Up to 6 inches.
- Vermont: Bracing for up to 8 inches.
West Coast Not Spared
Out West, the Pacific Northwest and California are also in for some snow.
- Washington: 2 to 5 inches.
- Oregon Cascades: Up to 6 inches.
- California's Sierra Nevada mountains: A whopping 7 feet of snow!
Utah and Alaska Join the Snow Party
- Utah: Up to 15 inches in high-elevation areas.
- Alaska: Up to 6 inches.
Travel Warnings
All this snow means travel could be tough. The NWS warns that driving could be difficult or even impossible in some areas. Gusty winds might bring down tree branches, adding to the mess.
