The upcoming premiere of the live-action Snow White film is not the grand event it was initially planned to be. Disney has decided to scale down the event.  This decision comes after a series of controversies and rumors surrounding the film.  The red carpet event will be much smaller, with only a few journalists present.  The studio has hand-picked these journalists.  This move is likely to avoid tough questions about the backlash the film has faced.

        The presence of Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, is a significant factor in this backlash.  Gadot is known for her vocal support of Israel.  She has been honored by the Anti-Defamation League for her stance.  This support has won her respect among Jews and Israelis.  However, others have criticized her for her views.  There have been calls to remove her from presenting an award at the Oscars.  Despite this, Gadot presented the award alongside Rachel Zegler, who plays Snow White.  There were rumors of tension between the two.  But, there was no visible discord at the Oscars or in their previous joint public appearances.  Zegler has posted support for pro-Palestinian causes.  This could be another reason for the tension.  Some viewers have also expressed a preference for Gadot over Zegler.  This has led to accusations of anti-Latina racism.  Zegler is of Colombian-Polish descent and became famous playing Maria in the Steven Spielberg remake of West Side Story.

        The film has also faced criticism for its changes from the original story.  Zegler has expressed her views on the original 1937 film.  She has said that the film focuses too much on the love story between Snow White and the prince.  She has also said that Snow White is not going to be saved by the prince.  Instead, she will be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.  This has led to speculation that the movie is no longer a romantic fairy tale but a leadership seminar.  The son of the late supervising director for the original movie has criticized the changes.  He has said that the new film bears no reflection to the original story.  He has also said that it would make his father and Walt Disney "roll in their graves. "

        Another controversy involves the seven dwarfs.  In the new movie, they are played by CGI dwarfs.  This has led to criticism from the dwarfism community.  Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage has criticized the inclusion of such characters at all.  Disney has said that they are taking a different approach with these characters to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film.  They have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.

        Despite all this, Gadot has been making the late-night talk show rounds in the US.  She has opened up about her emergency surgery for blood clots when she was pregnant with her fourth daughter.  She has also spoken out about how women need to take care of themselves.  Whatever happens with Snow White, it seems that Gadot can handle it.  But it will be interesting to see how much Disney's attempt to please everyone will succeed.
