Serotonin Deficiency in Rat Pups: Nesting Together Affects Growth
Saturday, November 30, 2024
Scientists wanted to know if nesting together could help. They put some of these rat pups in a communal nest where they could cuddle up with their brothers and sisters, just like in a real rat family. It worked, sort of. These pups started to like their mom's smell more and even made more of those isolation sounds. But guess what? They still grew slowly!
This unexpected result shows that while these pups might be feeling a bit better, the lack of serotonin in their brains is still doing something weird to their growth. It's like they're not getting all the right signals to grow properly.
