Senator Moreno Shares Views on Tech, Politics and Iran

Washington DC, USAFriday, July 17, 2026
Bernie Moreno, a new Republican senator from Ohio, spent time talking to reporters in the basement of the Russell Senate Building. He began by criticizing what he calls “dumb, lazy politicians” on Capitol Hill. Moreno said that when lawmakers can’t solve problems, they create new bills instead of fixing the issues. Next, he spoke about data centers. He warned that these facilities can use a lot of electricity and raise local costs. Moreno also said they might harm the environment and benefit only a few people. The senator mentioned the Digital Market Clarity Act. This bill would give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission authority over most crypto trading. Moreno believes it will pass soon, even though it is currently stalled in the Senate.
He criticized a proposal that would let state attorneys general sue the Department of Justice. Moreno said this idea could be used by politicians for personal gain and is not good public policy. When asked about crypto regulation, Moreno said it should not be a partisan issue. He thinks both parties lack full understanding of how digital assets work. The conversation ended with a discussion about Iran. Moreno expressed confidence that President Trump can handle the situation. He said Iran cannot acquire nuclear weapons and will face consequences if it continues its aggressive stance. After about five minutes of questioning, Moreno left the basement and continued his day in Washington.
