Schools Reopen Monday, Some Stay Closed Due to Fires

Most schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) will open their doors to students again on Monday. This decision was announced by the district on Sunday. However, not all schools will resume classes. Some schools, like Canyon Charter Elementary and Palisades Charter Elementary, will remain closed. This is because of mandatory evacuation orders due to recent fires. These schools will open again once it's safe. Roscomare Road Elementary and Community Magnet Charter are in evacuation warning zones. The district will decide if these schools will open on Monday by 5:30 a. m. on Monday.

The district has been preparing new classroom spaces for students whose schools were affected by the Palisades Fire. They've also replaced air filters at Carpenter Community Charter to ensure good air quality. The district will give five days off to employees who were affected by the fires. They'll also provide $500 to displaced employees and offer free child care. Schools will prioritize keeping students indoors on Monday. The district is able to reopen schools because of the hard work of employees who cleaned the schools and first responders who ensured the safety of the communities.
