San Diego Gets a Dome‑Sized IMAX Experience for Nolan’s New Film
The Fleet Science Center in San Diego has unveiled a new way to experience Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster, “The Odyssey.”
This film is the first ever shot entirely in IMAX format, giving viewers a breathtaking 76‑foot screen that wraps around the audience.
Cutting‑Edge Technology
The Eugene Heikoff and Marilyn Jacobs Heikoff Giant Dome Theater upgraded from a 70‑mm projector to the modern IMAX® Next Generation laser system in 2023.
The upgrade delivers:
- Sharper detail
- Brighter colors
A Dome That’s More Than Science
While the dome typically hosts science documentaries such as “Lost Wolves of Yellowstone” and “Sea Otters: A Wild Family Adventure,” it also screens a handful of Hollywood releases each year.
Past titles include “Dune” and the Formula One film “F1.”
Limited‑Time Screening
- Run dates: July 17 – August 2
- Duration: Three weekends only
- First weekend sold out – members of the Fleet Science Center receive priority seating
- Ticket price: $24.95 (general admission)
