Samsung's Next Foldable Phones: Small Steps, Big Plans

This year, Samsung is gearing up to launch its next-generation foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. While these devices won't likely bring major changes, they follow the successful Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition which showcased Samsung's ability to create slim foldables with great cameras. A recent report from South Korea hints that significant upgrades might only come with the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8. According to an interview with China's Fastprint, Samsung aims to sell 6 million units of the Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7. However, the company is said to have higher targets for the following year, planning to sell 7 million units collectively for the Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8. This could suggest a slower growth in interest for foldables.

Samsung is also preparing to sell around 230 million smartphones this year. This is a drop from the 300 million units shipped in 2019, with sales never fully recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, Samsung sold approximately 222 million units. The Galaxy S25 series is expected to perform well, with projected sales of 37 million units, outpacing the popular Galaxy S10 series. Samsung plans to manufacture 13-14 million units of the Galaxy S25, 6-7 million units of the Galaxy S25+, and 17 million units of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
