Safety Concerns Rise at Baton Rouge Student Housing
The Cadence at Southern University apartments have seen a significant increase in crime this year. Police reports indicate 58 incidents, including assaults and burglaries, since January. Two tragic shootings have left the community in shock.
- October: 17-year-old Micah Booker lost his life.
- Recently: 21-year-old Donovan Pugh, a criminal justice student at Southern University, was killed in a possible home invasion.
Parents Express Concerns
Parents are growing increasingly worried. One mother shared her fears, stating that her daughter hasn't slept in the apartment since a recent incident. She questioned the safety of the complex, especially since her daughter had hoped to live in a campus dorm but couldn't due to limited housing.
"My child's safety is my top priority. I would break the lease if needed."
No Response from the Apartment Complex
The apartment complex did not respond to requests for comment, leaving many to wonder what steps are being taken to address the safety concerns.
