Russell Brand Faces More Legal Trouble
Actor and comedian Russell Brand is now entangled in more serious legal troubles. British prosecutors have added two more charges of sexual assault and rape to his existing legal issues, bringing the total number of charges against him to seven.
New Charges Announced
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) revealed these new charges in a press release. They stated they have sufficient evidence to support the charges and believe it is in the public interest to pursue them. Lionel Idan, the Chief Crown Prosecutor, expressed confidence in the evidence and the importance of these cases.
Previous Charges and Court Appearances
In May, Brand appeared in court to plead not guilty to five charges of sex crimes. These charges are related to alleged incidents between 1999 and 2005, including:
- Two counts of rape
- One count of indecent assault
- Two counts of sexual assault
New Allegations and Upcoming Hearings
The new charges involve two different women, alleging rape and sexual assault in February and August 2009. Brand’s first hearing for these new charges is scheduled for January 20, 2026, at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
His trial for the initial five charges is set for June 2026. The accusations include:
- Rape in Bournemouth, England, in 1999
- Four other alleged crimes in the London area
Brand’s Response
Before his trial, Brand posted a video on Instagram addressing the charges. He admitted to struggles with drugs and sex but strongly denied being a rapist. He also criticized the legal system, calling it a "weapon."
