Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) with LiFePO4 (LFP) cathodes are common, but they wear out and can't be easily reused due to damage. This is because they lose lithium and their structure gets messed up over time. Researchers have come up with a clever way to fix this problem. They found that glycerol, a common chemical, can help repair these old batteries. Glycerol has special properties that make it great for this job. It can act as an electron donor, helping to fix the damage caused by lithium loss and structure problems.

Moreover, glycerol can act like a glue, sticking particles together and preventing them from falling apart. This helps to create tiny, uniform crystals and restore the battery's shape and structure after a simple heating process. The best part is that these repaired batteries work almost as well as new ones. After 500 charges and discharges, they still retain 93. 1% of their capacity. This means that old EV batteries could be given a new lease on life, making battery recycling more efficient and environmentally friendly.
