Religion and Social Connectivity: Bridging Divides

You might think religion brings people together, right? Well, it can, but it can also do the opposite. Just like we've seen with racial segregation, religious segregation is a big deal. A study on Weibo, China's version of Twitter, looked at the social network of 6875 believers from different faiths. Guess what? Only 1. 6% of their connections were with people from different religions. That's even higher than segregation based on race or political parties.

Those rare connections between different faiths? They're super important for keeping the network connected. They're more crucial than the most active links or those that connect different groups the most. And get this – nearly half of these cross-religion links were about charitable causes. So, while religious segregation is real, there's hope for breaking down barriers. It's not just about talking; it's about doing good together.
