Religion and Old Age: How Beliefs Impact Depression
Amsterdam, NetherlandsMonday, November 25, 2024
There were around 1, 000 participants in this study, and they were tracked for six years. The study focused on their beliefs and how they cope with life's challenges. It turns out, positive feelings about God can act as a shield against depressive symptoms. But when feelings like anxiety or disappointment with God creep in, or when religion is used in a negative way, it's more likely depression will set in.
This isn't just a one-way deal. Depression can make these negative feelings even stronger. It's a cycle that can be hard to break. So, it's important to understand how our beliefs and how we use them can affect our mental health.
