Los Angeles, USAWednesday, June 24, 2026

Film Independent and the Redford Center have launched a new prize that honors late filmmaker Robert Redford. The award, the Robert Redford Environmental Vision Award, will recognize a single American narrative film or television show that tackles environmental topics in an imaginative way.

What the Award Seeks

  • Beyond Climate Talk – Stories that offer fresh angles, challenge negative narratives, and expose injustices in environmental policy.
  • Indigenous & Ancestral Wisdom – Bringing traditional knowledge into the spotlight.
  • Personal Journeys – Characters wrestling with ecological themes, showing how personal arcs intersect with larger issues.

The goal: Celebrate projects that inspire hope and real change through storytelling.

“Independent filmmakers are powerful catalysts for new ideas,” says a spokesperson from Film Independent.
“This award shows that bold voices can reshape how we think about the planet.”
