Rappers Win Legal Battle
Saturday, February 15, 2025
The case went back and forth in court. In December, the person who filed the lawsuit gave an interview that hurt her credibility. She said she wasn't sure about all the details of the night's events and might have made a mistake in identifying the people involved. Later that month, a judge allowed her to proceed anonymously in the lawsuit.
Jay-Z then filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. He said there were inconsistencies in the woman's account. While the case against Jay-Z has been dismissed, Combs still faces dozens of lawsuits filed over the past year. Combs' legal team said the dismissal was just another sign that these lawsuits are based on falsehoods. They said Combs has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone and will continue to fight these claims.
Combs has been in prison since September 2024 on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. He has been denied bail three times and will remain in prison until his trial on May 5, 2025. If found guilty, he could face life in prison.
