This sensor uses something called a single-atom nanozyme to change color when it finds a pesticide called carbofuran. Carbofuran acts as a sneaky blocker for an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which helps break down a chemical called acetylthiocholine.

When this happens, another chemical, thiocholine, stops the nanozyme from working, causing a color change that we can see with our eyes or a smartphone camera. This sensor can spot carbofuran even when it's barely there, and it works well with veggies like Chinese cabbage, regular cabbage, and lettuce.
