Qualcomm's Chip Off the Old Block: EU Court Chimes in with a Fine Tune
Europe, LONDON, EUThursday, September 19, 2024
After a thorough examination of Qualcomm's arguments, the General Court decided to reject them all, except for the company's plea regarding the fine calculation. As a result, the fine has been trimmed to 238.7 million euros. Qualcomm has expressed its disagreement with the judgment and the Commission's decision, stating that it has always complied with European competition law.
This verdict is a significant development in the ongoing saga between Qualcomm and the European Commission. The Commission had previously fined Qualcomm $1.23 billion for bribing Apple to stifle competition. However, the General Court overturned that decision in 2022 after Qualcomm appealed.
