But Ukraine knows from past experiences that promises alone won't prevent future wars. They need firm military alliances. The US and European militaries might struggle to meet their commitments. A recent study shows Germany's military would run out of ammunition in 70 days if shooting like Russia. It's hard to imagine leaders authorizing military action against Russia. The West's will to defend Ukraine is questioned. Leadership is needed to break complacency and show commitment to Ukraine.
