Politics: Don't Let It Wreck Your Relationships

Last week, Republican Senator J. D. Vance gave some wise advice. He said we shouldn't cut off friends or family just because they vote differently. Why? Because politics shouldn't come between people who care about each other. It's sad to see folks ending long friendships or even family ties over who they vote for. Senator Vance was right. When we get too heated about politics, it makes it hard to come together and solve problems. It's like when former President Donald Trump calls Vice President Kamala Harris a "far-left fascist, " and she calls him a "fascist. " This kind of talk doesn't help anyone. Former First Lady Michelle Obama recently said a vote for Republicans is a vote against women's health. But that's not true. She talked about a woman who was arrested, but that case had nothing to do with abortion laws. It's important to check facts before saying things like that.

Sadly, politics is making people stop talking to each other more than before. Almost a quarter of Democrats say they don't have friends who vote differently. That's not good. We should try to understand people who think differently, not cut them out of our lives. A scary thing happened at a campaign event in Houston. A woman yelled at a little girl in a stroller because her dad was protesting. That's not okay. We should talk about our differences, not shout at each other or get mad at kids. The election will bring big changes. But that doesn't mean we should let politics ruin our lives. We should try to stay friendly with people who think differently. That way, we can all work together and make things better.
