Police and City Agencies Team Up to Combat Crime in Queens' Roosevelt Avenue

Something's been going wrong on Roosevelt Avenue in Queens for a while now. The area, running from 74th to 111th Streets, has seen a rise in crimes like drug trafficking and prostitution. But now, the city has had enough. Mayor Adams, standing with city officials and NYPD members, laid out a plan to fix this. The Roosevelt Avenue Task Force is a group of different city departments—like the NYPD, FDNY, and health and sanitation—all working together to clean up the area. This task force has a big job to do. They're focusing on shutting down illegal brothels first, places where people are being forced into sex work. Just Tuesday, the NYPD raided one such brothel and stopped the trafficking happening there.

The plan will run for 90 days. Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry said that while they'll start on Roosevelt Avenue, the effects will be felt beyond these blocks. The area has seen lots of problems—unlicensed vendors, unregistered mopeds, and food carts without permits. All these issues make life harder for the community. One of the worst crimes the task force is tackling is human trafficking. They'll work with social service groups to help victims with housing, medical care, counseling, and legal support. They're not stopping until everyone is rescued and every trafficker is caught.
