Pluribus: The Journey Continues
Vince Gilligan, the creative force behind Pluribus, has offered fans a sneak peek into the future of the Apple TV+ series. In a recent interview, he expressed both excitement and nerves about the upcoming season, acknowledging that he doesn't have all the answers yet. This uncertainty is nothing new for Gilligan, known for his adaptable storytelling in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
A Quick Renewal and a Potential Four-Season Run
Apple TV+ swiftly ordered two seasons of Pluribus before the first season even premiered, demonstrating their confidence in Gilligan's vision. While he has hinted at a possible four-season run, he remains open to changes. Production for Season 2 is slated to begin in spring 2026, with an expected release between autumn 2027 and 2028. The delay is attributed to the show's high production costs, with each episode reportedly costing around $15 million.
A Unique Blend of Genres
Pluribus is a unique blend of genres, following Carol Sturka, one of the last humans in a world overtaken by an alien parasite. The parasite has merged humanity into a hive mind, forcing Carol to choose between resisting and maintaining her independence or joining the hive and losing her humanity. The first season, consisting of nine episodes, will conclude on December 24, 2025.
Adapting and Evolving the Story
Gilligan has emphasized his willingness to adapt the story if a better idea emerges. He believes in evolving the narrative as they progress. Rhea Seehorn, who plays Carol Sturka, has also shared her enthusiasm for the next season. She is eager to see where the story takes them and is ready to be surprised alongside the audience.
