Plum Middle School Gets a Big Roof and More
Plum, Pennsylvania, USAThursday, April 30, 2026
Plum Middle School is poised to begin a second phase of extensive upgrades following the school board’s approval of contracts totaling $3.4 million.
What’s Coming
- Roof Replacement – The new roof, supplied by Strongland Roofing Systems of Parks Township, will replace a 25‑year‑old leaking roof and also address leaks at Plum High School.
- Front-of-Campus Redesign – Hudson Construction Co. (Hermitage) will overhaul the front of the middle school, adding a security vestibule, reconfiguring office spaces, and improving accessibility for people with disabilities. This contract alone exceeds $1 million.
- Track and Field Safety – Palombo Landscaping Inc. (Penn Hills) will extend the track to separate it from the football field, addressing long‑standing safety concerns. The board is still deciding on a cushioned surface for the entire track loop.
- Interior Upgrades – New plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems will bring the building up to modern standards.
Bigger Picture
These projects are part of a $30 million initiative that also includes renovations and an addition at O’Block Elementary School. Most of the work is slated to be completed before the next school year begins.
“The renovations are overdue,” said School Director Michelle Stepnick. “I’m excited for the improvements that will benefit our students and staff.”
