Playing It Safe: How Gamblers Feel About New Trial Methods

Gambling can be fun, but it comes with risks. This study looked into how 36 casual gamblers felt about a trial called EROGamb 2. 0. This trial aimed to make gambling safer by using messages about what others do and by helping people set goals. The gamblers were interviewed over the phone or video calls. Most of them found the trial interesting and helpful, but some didn't see any changes in how they gambled. Some joined the trial because they were curious, wanted to help others, or were offered money.

They liked that the trial was clear and easy to follow, even though there were some technical problems. When it came to messages about what others do, some were skeptical. But many liked the goal-setting part, finding it clear and useful. Outside factors, like offers from gambling companies, also played a role in their gambling habits. The study showed that these methods could work, but future research should be tailored to each person.
