Pipeline Court Fight: California Loses Bid to Halt Oil Flow

California, USAFriday, May 29, 2026
The U. S. District Court for the Central District of California denied a request from the state parks department to block Sable Offshore Corp. from moving oil through a pipeline that has been at the center of debate for years. The decision comes after Sable restarted the Santa Ynez project in March, following federal approval that ended a long pause. California’s parks agency had asked for an immediate court order, claiming the pipeline would cause irreversible damage to Gaviota State Park.
The judge said the agency could not prove it would suffer such harm without a preliminary injunction. Sable’s stock rose about 12% after the ruling, marking a significant win for the company. The parks department is unhappy with the outcome and plans to keep fighting what it calls “trespassing on public land. ” Other lawsuits from California groups, including one against the U. S. Department of Energy, are still moving forward but remain in early stages.
