Pennsylvania's Mail-In Ballot Battle Hits Supreme Court
Pennsylvania, USATuesday, October 29, 2024
So, what's the big deal with these secrecy envelopes? Well, they're supposed to keep your vote private as election workers open your mail-in ballot. But without them, Pennsylvania Republicans say these votes shouldn't count.
Two voters in Butler County sued after their provisional ballots were rejected. A local judge agreed with the election officials. But the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania says most counties do try to inform voters about potential issues before Election Day.
This isn't the first time Pennsylvania's mail-in ballot rules have caused a stir. A 2019 law expanded their use, leading to a series of lawsuits. Now, it's up to the Supreme Court to decide what happens to these disputed votes.
