Peace Talks in Paris: A Look at the Ukraine-Russia Conflict
Paris, KyivFriday, April 18, 2025
Ukraine has been pushing the U. S. to be tougher on Russia. The full-scale invasion started in February 2022 and is still going on. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke to journalists in Kyiv. He said Witkoff seems to be following Russia's strategy. Ukrainians are upset because Witkoff talked about a peace deal that might involve giving up some Ukrainian territories. Russia took over Crimea in 2014 and has partly occupied other regions since the invasion.
Zelenskyy criticized Witkoff for spreading Russian ideas. He said Ukraine's territory belongs to its people. When asked about President Trump's comment on a deadly Russian strike, Zelenskyy didn't criticize Trump. He noted that Rubio had condemned the strike. Zelenskyy thinks the U. S. administration's response is too soft. He believes they think their approach will end the war.
Macron talked to Zelenskyy before and after the meetings. More talks are planned in London next week. The situation is complex, and finding a solution won't be easy. Everyone involved has different ideas and priorities. The key is to keep talking and working towards a peace that benefits everyone.
