Two giant pandas from China, Bao Li and Qing Bao, have landed in Washington, DC, marking the first time in 24 years that the US capital has welcomed new pandas. The big day started at Dulles Airport, where a special FedEx plane dubbed the "Panda Express" touched down with the precious cargo. The pandas were carefully transported to the Smithsonian's National Zoo, where they will stay for 10 years. This isn't just a fun animal story; it's a diplomatic move by China. The pandas will help raise money for conservation efforts in China, with the US paying $1 million annually.

But why all the fuss over these bears? Pandas have been a symbol of goodwill between China and the US since the 1970s. It all started when Pat Nixon, First Lady at the time, fell in love with pandas during a historic visit to China. Since then, pandas have become major attractions at zoos across the US. Bao Li, one of the new arrivals, has some famous family ties. His mother, Bao Bao, was born at the National Zoo and returned to China in 2017.
