Oops! Soldier Crashes Truck into Putin's Jet
Monday, February 10, 2025
The loss of the Su-25 jet isn't the only recent setback for Russia. Just days before, a Ukrainian drone attack targeted the Smolensk Aviation Plant, which produces the Soviet-designed Su-25 ground attack aircraft, as well as Kh-55 and Kh-59 missiles. This is part of a broader strategy by Ukraine to disrupt Russia's war efforts by targeting key facilities.
Russia's military losses have been significant. By April 2024, it was reported that Russia had lost around 10 percent of its aircraft fleet since the invasion of Ukraine began. This includes losses due to friendly fire and Ukrainian forces shooting down Russian jets. In total, 235 Russian aircraft have been destroyed and 46 damaged.
While Russia has been facing these losses, Ukraine has also suffered. According to Dutch open-source intelligence defense analysis website Oryx, 97 Ukrainian aircraft have been destroyed. Another four were damaged and one was captured.
The war continues to grind on, and as it enters its fourth year, both Russia and Ukraine are set to lose more military equipment and personnel. Efforts to end the conflict through peace talks and negotiations are ongoing.
