A new psychological thriller has quickly climbed to the top of Netflix's charts.  This film, directed by Tyler Perry, is called "Straw. "  It's a gripping story that follows a single mother's struggle to keep her life from falling apart in just one day.  The movie has all the elements that viewers love: a tense plot, unexpected twists, and a well-known director.  It's no surprise that it's become a hit.

The story revolves around Janiyah Wiltkinson, played by Taraji P. Henson.  She lives in Atlanta and is already facing a tough life as a single mother.  Her daughter has a chronic illness, and Janiyah is struggling to make ends meet.  Things take a turn for the worse when she loses her job and finds an eviction notice on her door.  Her daughter's medication is running out, and she can't afford to buy more.  Desperate for help, she turns to legal channels, but she's met with indifference and bureaucratic hurdles at every turn.

The movie is intense and emotionally charged.  It starts with a quiet look at Janiyah's everyday life, but the pace quickly picks up as her problems mount.  Within 24 hours, she loses her job, her car, her home, and even her daughter, who is taken away by child services.  A police officer adds to her troubles by hitting her car, threatening her, and towing her vehicle.  She's evicted, and her belongings are left out in the rain.  When she goes to collect her last paycheck, she gets caught in a deadly armed robbery.  It's a lot to handle, and viewers can't help but root for Janiyah to find a happy ending.  But in Tyler Perry's world, happiness isn't always guaranteed.

Taraji P. Henson delivers a powerful performance as Janiyah.  She brings the character's heartbreak and struggles to life, making the movie's most memorable moment an emotional monologue halfway through.  However, the movie has its flaws.  It can be overly dramatic at times, with scenes that feel forced or cheaply made.  The plot also becomes convoluted, especially when the FBI is brought into the mix.  The twist ending might leave viewers feeling conflicted, as it adds an unexpected layer to the story but could have made the movie's impact even stronger without it.

Despite its issues, "Straw" is one of Tyler Perry's stronger movies.  It's worth watching if you enjoy intense psychological thrillers.  At the time of writing, it has a solid audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with viewers praising its power and emotion.  Taraji P. Henson's acting is also labeled as "excellent.
