NYPD Top Cop Steps Down Over Sexual Misconduct Claims
New York, USASunday, December 22, 2024
A lawyer for the accuser, Lt. Quathisha Epps, believes the resignation should have happened sooner. Epps has filed a federal complaint, claiming Maddrey coerced her into unwanted sexual favors for overtime opportunities. When she resisted, she was suspended without pay. Mayor Eric Adams is concerned about the allegations and the department is conducting a full review.
Maddrey has faced other allegations in the past, including from a police captain and a former officer. Earlier this year, an administrative judge recommended dropping a case against him. Maddrey joined the NYPD in 1991 and rose to the top, with his role including overseeing crime-fighting strategies and operational plans. The NYPD aims to protect New Yorkers and maintain public trust.
