NVIDIA's New RTX 5090D: AI and Crypto Limits in China

NVIDIA has unveiled the RTX 5090D, a GPU designed for the Chinese market with some unique twists. Unlike its predecessors, this version has restrictions on AI and crypto-mining tasks. After just three seconds of work, the GPU slows down or throttles performance. This means Chinese AI firms might find it less useful for high-demand tasks.

Another big change is that the RTX 5090D can't be used in multi-GPU setups. This was a popular trick to boost performance for AI tasks. But not anymore. Gamers, though, won't notice much difference since these limits don't impact gaming. The new RTX 5090D packs a GB202 GPU with 21, 760 CUDA cores and 32 GB of GDDR7 memory, offering high bandwidth. Despite these changes, some manufacturers like GALAX are already showing off their versions, indicating market readiness.
