New Reading Rules in Texas Schools Spark Praise from NBA Star

Texas, USASunday, June 28, 2026

Josh Hart, the 31‑year‑old NBA champion who helped his team secure an NBA title, posted a short message on social media to cheer for Texas lawmakers. They approved new rules that will add Bible stories to the list of books students must read in public schools.

The board’s vote was 9‑5‑1, and the new reading list includes:

  • Fifth gradersBook of Exodus
  • Seventh graders – a poem called “The Shepherd’s Psalm”

Julie Pickren, one of the board members and a Republican, said the goal is to give students insight into moral ideas that shaped Western culture. She also claimed that reading original texts can help kids think more critically and understand American values better.

Hart has spoken often about his faith during interviews and posts. He celebrated the decision by writing “Whoever has ears let them hear” on X, a social media platform.

During the NBA playoffs, Hart was known for strong defense and solid rebounding. Over 19 games, he averaged about ten points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals per match.

The Texas decision has sparked debate about religious content in public education. Some supporters argue it strengthens moral learning, while critics worry it may blur the line between church and state.

Hart’s reaction reflects a broader trend of athletes using their platforms to discuss political and cultural issues.
