Tuesday’s highs will be well above the May average, especially west of Interstate 95 where temperatures may hit the low to mid‑80s. Near the coast, the heat will be milder, staying in the 70s and upper 60s along the shore.  

Even so, May 5 record highs for places like Atlantic City (89 °F in 1955), Trenton (91 °F in 1928) and Newark (94 °F in 1949) are unlikely to be matched.  

Rain is expected to arrive late Tuesday night and continue into Wednesday as a cold front moves southeast across the state. The front may linger through Thursday, bringing more showers.  

There is a small chance of isolated thunderstorms, but the weather remains generally safe with little threat of severe storms or flooding.
