New Indoor Golf League Hits Big with Viewers

Last Tuesday saw the launch of an exciting new indoor golf league spearheaded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and it was a hit on ESPN! The debut on Tuesday night of the league, known as TGL, attracted around 919, 000 viewers, with a peak of 1. 1 million viewers during a particular segment. This is a promising start for the league, considering it had to postpone its debut last year due to a roof collapse at SoFi Center in Palm Beach, Florida. Interestingly, TGL outshone a college basketball game that aired in the same time slot last year, with a 28 percent higher audience count. Sports Media Watch also reported that TGL saw a 22 percent increase in viewership compared to a match between Duke and Pittsburgh that preceded it.

The inaugural match featured a 15-hole contest between Bay Golf Club and New York Golf Club, with Bay Golf Club winning convincingly at 9-2. The match was played inside the technological marvel that is the 250, 000-square-foot SoFi Center. The new league aims to enhance the sport rather than compete with the PGA Tour. Player Rickie Fowler emphasized that the indoor league is meant to complement existing golf events. “This isn’t about replacing what we do on the PGA Tour, ” he said. “It’s about adding to the sport and showing what’s possible.
