New Drugs to Tame High Cholesterol.

Heart trouble is a big problem people face across the globe. They often come from having too high cholesterol levels. Doctors have been trying various medicines to keep them in check. For decades, a type of medicine called statins had been the go to. However, adverse reactions showed up quite often. That opened the doors for other options like ezetimibe, bempedoic acid, and PCSK9 inhibitors. There are three types of PCSK9 inhibitors, the first is Alirocumab. Then there is Evolocumab and finally, there is Inclisiran. Decisions were made to see how much was spent and how many people got these drugs from the start of 2023 to the start of 2024 . The information was gathered from private and public drug stores. Drugs used to lower cholesterol levels were measured using a system that classifies them into groups and puts out a standard dosage. Here is not what was found. The interest in traditional statins fell, with use going from 42% in 2023 to 30% in 2024 . Statins are designed to lower bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) in the blood.

Mixed therapies, like statins plus ezetimibe, did not change. They kept a steady lead in both periods at 17%. Drugs to remove PCSK9 inhibitors shot up from 33% to 40% between 2023 and 2024. PCSK9 inhibitors are designed to lower cholesterol levels also but in a different way. Bempedoic acid, either as a standalone or mixed with ezetimibe, kept a stake in the market but below 2%. Large levels of heart trouble are caused by high cholesterol. Better drugs to lower cholesterol mean less heart trouble. Exercises and foods that lower cholesterol are also encouraged. Keeping the cost of these drugs down is a puzzle not yet solved. New drugs could solve this puzzle, but their cost might present a challenge. PCSK9 inhibitors are more expensive than most other drugs. Health costs are always a concern for people on a low to medium income. Use of these drugs has to be good, There has also been a rise in health care costs through use of these drugs
