Arkansas State University Names Stacy Walz Permanent Dean of Nursing and Health Professions

JONESBORO, Ark. — Arkansas State University (A-State) has officially appointed Stacy Walz as the dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions, ending her interim role that began in early 2025. Walz, a longstanding leader within the college, will assume full responsibilities on July 1, bringing a decade of institutional knowledge and academic excellence to her new position.

A Legacy of Leadership and Education

Walz’s connection to A-State runs deep. Prior to her interim role, she served as associate dean and chair of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, where her strategic vision and dedication earned widespread respect. Her academic foundation is equally impressive—she earned all three of her degrees (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also contributed as a faculty member before joining A-State in 2011.

During her interim tenure, Walz distinguished herself as a forward-thinking leader, earning high praise from university leadership. The provost highlighted her as a catalyst for change, citing her ability to drive progress and innovation. Now, as permanent dean, she is poised to build on this momentum with a comprehensive strategic plan designed to elevate the college for students, faculty, staff, and the broader Arkansas community.

Transforming Healthcare Education and Workforce Development

One of Walz’s most ambitious initiatives is the new Healthcare Simulation Building, made possible by a $9 million federal grant. This state-of-the-art facility will address critical shortages in maternal and infant health professionals, helping bridge regional gaps in healthcare access. Beyond infrastructure, Walz is committed to:

  • Aligning the college with campus-wide strategic goals
  • Supporting faculty research and teaching excellence
  • Fostering open communication with students

A New Era of Leadership and Opportunity

Walz has made it clear that her leadership will bring measurable shifts—particularly in expanding scholarship opportunities and enhancing student support. Her approach emphasizes collaboration, working closely with university leadership to turn state and campus priorities into action. Strengthening partnerships with clinical and community organizations will also remain a cornerstone of her strategy.

As Walz steps into this permanent role, the College of Nursing and Health Professions enters a new phase of growth, driven by her vision for excellence, innovation, and service.
