Mosquito Mayhem: Climate Change's Role in Disease Spread on Islands
Thursday, February 6, 2025
Small island communities often rely on tourism, and trust me, this often means frequent travelers coming and going. If these tourists unwittingly bring in mosquito-borne illnesses, the results can be catastrophic, as these diseases can quickly take hold and spread. The worst part, these countries often cannot afford the medical resources to fight these diseases.
Worse still, the tropics are ideal for mosquitoes, and rising temperatures mean they can breed in more areas than ever before. The issue of climate change is a global issue, but its impact is localized, and we must think broadly to address it effectively.
