Mosquito-Borne Illness Ends Life of a New Hampshire Resident After a Decade of Calm

In a stunning revelation, a resident from Hampstead, New Hampshire has lost their life due to the lethal mosquito-borne disease known as Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus (EEEV). This is the first human instance of EEEV in the state in a decade, stoking fears of a possible resurgence of this hazardous infection. The unfortunate adult victim was taken to the hospital as a result of severe central nervous system symptoms which tragically led to their demise. This devastating news follows the reporting of three human cases of EEEV in New Hampshire back in 2014, two of which resulted in fatalities.

Meanwhile, Louisiana has faced a series of non-human EEEV cases this year, with reported incidents in Beauregard, Jefferson Davis, Rapides, St. Charles, and Terrebonne parishes. As per data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one case each has been reported in Ascension, Calcasieu, East Baton Rouge, St. John the Baptist, Tangipahoa, and Terrebonne parishes from 2003 to 20232023.
