Morning Commutes Get a Boost: SEPTA's Big Reopenings
SEPTA Reopens Major Services
Philadelphia's morning commutes just got a bit easier. SEPTA has reopened two major services that have been causing headaches for riders. The Center City Trolley Tunnel is back in action, and the Regional Rail morning express service has resumed after a long break.
Center City Trolley Tunnel Reopens
The tunnel, which has been closed since mid-November due to repair work, is now operational. Crews were installing a new part, but it ended up causing more damage. This left thousands of daily riders stranded and frustrated. The tunnel connects Center City to West Philadelphia, near the University of Pennsylvania, making it a crucial route for many people getting to work or school.
Morning Express Service Resumes
The morning express service has been missing for months due to federally mandated inspections after some fires. SEPTA has been slowly bringing back its Silverliner IV rail cars, and now the morning express is finally back. Riders have been struggling with delays, making their daily commutes a real challenge. One rider, Rashea Daniels, said it's been a huge relief to have the express service back.
More Repairs Ahead
While the tunnel is open, SEPTA says there will be overnight closures through February for more repairs. So, it's not all smooth sailing just yet. Still, these reopenings are a big step forward for Philadelphia's commuters.
