Monaco's 2024 Grand Prix: The Two-Stop Mandate
MonacoSaturday, May 24, 2025
One of the biggest questions leading up to the race is whether the new C6 compound will be used. Introduced earlier this year, the C6 degrades quickly, and some teams have found better performance with the C5 medium. However, the unpredictable nature of Monaco could make the C6 a viable option for a brief stint.
The new rule is also expected to affect strategy, especially for drivers starting near the back of the grid. An early pit stop could give them clean air and a chance to undercut those ahead. Meanwhile, drivers at the front will have to pay close attention to their rivals' strategies and react accordingly. The possibility of a Safety Car could also come into play, adding another layer of unpredictability.
The new rule is a step in the right direction, but it doesn't solve Monaco's core issue: the cars are still too big for the track. While 2026 will bring slightly smaller cars, it remains to be seen whether this will truly transform the racing. Despite its flaws, Monaco's unique challenges are part of what makes it iconic.
