Monaco's 2024 Grand Prix: The Two-Stop Mandate

The 2024 Monaco Grand Prix is set to shake things up with a new rule: every driver must make at least two pit stops. This change aims to inject some excitement into a race that has often been criticized for its lack of action. The goal is to make the race more engaging for fans, who have been left disappointed by previous years' predictable outcomes. Monaco's unique track design has always made overtaking difficult. This, combined with the low tyre stress, has led to one-stop strategies becoming the norm. Last year, a red flag allowed drivers to change tyres "for free, " resulting in a boring race where the top ten finished in the same order they started. This year, the FIA and F1 are hoping to change that with the new two-stop rule. The new rule requires drivers to use at least three different tyre compounds, including wet-weather tyres if necessary. If the race stays dry, drivers must use at least two slick compounds, one of which must be either the C4 (hard) or C5 (medium).
