Mind Over Meal Eating Disorders and Early Schizophrenia

This new version is designed to make it easier to screen for disordered eating in patients with psychotic disorders. To test its effectiveness, a study focused on individuals with newly diagnosed schizophrenia who were just beginning their treatment with minimal exposure to antipsychotics.

When it comes to the measurement needs and clinical decision-making, the real question is whether the EAT-7 can effectively identify disordered eating behavior in these patients. Some believe that the EAT-7 might fall short because of the complex emotional and cognitive aspects which are different in patients with first-episode schizophrenia. Trying to get into the heads of those with schizophrenia to understand their eating habits is a tough task. Eating habits and the overall mental state of schizophrenia patients are hard to separate. If the EAT-7 can help shed some light on these issues, it would be a big win for both the clinical community and those battling.
