Mike Morhaime's New Studio Unveils Phone-Controlled Tabletop Game: Sunderfolk

Mike Morhaime, the former boss of Blizzard, has a new game studio called Dreamhaven. He started this company in 2020 with other ex-Blizzard staff. Dreamhaven has two parts: Moonshot and Secret Door. Secret Door is the one behind the new game, Sunderfolk. Sunderfolk is unlike anything you've seen before. It's a tactical game that feels like a tabletop RPG but is controlled with your phone. You'll explore the Sunderlands, fight monsters, and meet animals with unique personalities. All this is designed to be easy to play, like a traditional board game night with friends. The game uses your phone or tablet to manage your inventory and fight battles.

Combat is turn-based, and you'll pick from a deck of skill cards to attack. There are also Fate Cards that add an element of luck. Working together with your friends is key to winning. Mike Morhaime says, "Sunderfolk is a beautiful game full of charm. It creates moments where everyone works together or celebrates victories." Chris Sigaty, who worked on games like Hearthstone and Starcraft at Blizzard, is now at Secret Door. He says, "We love board games and wanted to make something easy to play but challenging to master." Sunderfolk will be released in 2025 on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
