Memorial Day: What’s Open and Closed

The holiday that honors those who died for the country falls on the fourth Monday in May.

Federal Services

Mail: Stops. The Postal Service is closed, so no letters or packages arrive at homes or businesses.
Delivery Companies: UPS and FedEx pause regular deliveries. Some UPS stores may stay open, but the UPS Express Critical option remains available for urgent shipping.
Banks & Markets: The Federal Reserve is shut, leading to most banks being closed. The New York Stock Exchange and other stock exchanges also pause trading.

Pharmacies:
CVS may open with different hours; check the local store.
Walgreens generally stays open; 24‑hour locations remain staffed, but other branches could close or shorten their day.
Retail Giants:
Whole Foods, Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, and ALDI stay open.
Sam’s Club may have reduced hours.
Costco is one of the few big retailers that closes all warehouses for the holiday.
Other Shops: Belk usually stays open but should be checked online for exact timings.

Most restaurants stay open, though some big chains and local spots might limit their hours or close for part of the day.
