Traditional tools can be inconsistent, but here’s where smartphones come in. Modern cameras in smartphones can capture similar results to expensive 3D scanners, making medical care more accessible. Researchers tested three apps - Polycam, Luma, and Meshroom - to see if they could measure residual limbs just as well as a professional scanner.

They tested ten limbs and found that Polycam and Luma were almost perfect, with astonishing accuracy. Meshroom, however, didn't quite make the cut. The study shows that using smartphone apps like Polycam and Luma can be a game-changer in clinical settings, pushing the limits of what's possible with affordable technology.
