Many Still Recovering After Bourbon Street Incident

NEW ORLEANS, LA, USA,Friday, January 3, 2025

In the aftermath of the Bourbon Street attack, many injured people were rushed to nearby hospitals. LCMC Health hospitals reported that 16 patients are still being treated, with eight of them in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Four patients were transferred from other facilities to receive special care, while 13 people have been released. Dr. Jeffrey Elder, the Chief Medical Officer at University Medical Center, mentioned that this was one of the most serious events they had seen in terms of the number of critically ill patients arriving in a short time.

New Year's Day saw a tragic terrorism attack, and the medical facilities were overwhelmed. University Medical Center alone treated 26 patients that day. The sheer volume and critical condition of the patients, coupled with the short timeframe, made this incident especially challenging for the hospitals.
