Knoxville’s Big Change: A New Arena, a Spa, and a Beloved Boutique Says Goodbye

Knoxville TN, USAThursday, July 9, 2026

The Lizard Thicket is closing
A beloved West Knoxville boutique that has been a community hub for over ten years will shut its doors at the end of July. The owner, via social media, is offering a 25 % discount to help shoppers finish their last purchases before the final day.

The Armory opens on July 20
A sprawling 27,000‑sq‑ft entertainment complex will debut just outside town. Inside, guests can dine at a restaurant, sip drinks in two bars, and try games such as duckpin bowling, digital darts, virtual reality, mini‑golf, and even skeet shooting. Gemini Hospitality—already a local favorite for restaurants on Gay Street—is behind the project and plans to expand further.

These changes illustrate Knoxville’s shift toward entertainment and wellness, even as long‑standing businesses close. Residents can still snag final sales at The Lizard Thicket and look forward to fresh attractions in the coming weeks.
