Kamala Harris: A Champion for Women. . . With Some Serious Skepticism
Tuesday, September 10, 2024
Harris' rise comes at a time when toxic masculinity and attacks on women's rights have reached a fever pitch. It's concerning that the right has launched such vicious personal attacks against her, but one must wonder - what is Harris doing to address the root causes of this backlash? Is she just focusing on fighting the symptoms or working to dismantle the systems that allow misogyny and bigotry to thrive?
It's also worth noting that while Harris touts herself as a fighter for reproductive rights, her record in California was more mixed - she opposed Proposition 47 which would have reduced some non-violent felonies to misdemeanors. One could argue this disproportionately harmed communities of color and went against the principles of racial justice that Harris claims to champion.
The truth is, no candidate is perfect. But women deserve a leader who will boldly confront the status quo and fight for true systemic change - not just incremental progress or empty rhetoric. Kamala Harris has potential, but she must prove herself worthy of the trust placed in her. It's up to all of us to hold her accountable.
In the end, the choice is ours. We can either elect a candidate because they check boxes and generate excitement, or we can vote for someone who will truly challenge the broken systems that have oppressed women for generations. The stakes are too high to settle for anything less than transformative leadership.
