Jake Gyllenhaal Takes On A Dark Role In Amazon's 'Collision'
Jake Gyllenhaal is set to star in and produce "Collision", a new film based on Don Winslow's short story from the collection "The Final Score". Teaming up with Amazon, Gyllenhaal will work alongside his Nine Stories partner Josh McLaughlin and The Story Factory's Shane Salerno.
The Story
The narrative revolves around a man leading a good life who makes a significant mistake, landing him in prison. Inside, he learns to survive, but his troubles persist even after release. He uncovers the reason behind his protection in prison and is sent on a life-altering mission.
Collaborations and Successes
This isn't Gyllenhaal's first collaboration with Winslow and Amazon. They are also working on "Crime 101", based on another Winslow short story, starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry, set for a 2026 release.
Gyllenhaal's recent success with "Road House" on Prime Video broke records, amassing over 50 million viewers in its first two weekends. This led to Amazon signing his production label to a first-look deal.
The Book and Its Impact
"The Final Score" is the title story in Winslow's collection, expected to be shopped to buyers post the July 4th holiday. Stephen King tweeted about the collection, calling it "the best crime fiction I've read in twenty years", boosting sales. The book is set to release by HarperCollins on September 17.
Gyllenhaal's Other Projects
Gyllenhaal is also working on a second season of "Presumed Innocent" for Apple, following the success of the first season as one of Apple's most-watched dramas. He recently starred in "Othello" on Broadway with Denzel Washington, making it the top-grossing play in Broadway history.
Notable Collaborations
Winslow's work has attracted major names like Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Ridley Scott. Gyllenhaal is represented by WME and Carlos Goodman, while Winslow is represented by The Story Factory and CAA.
