Israel's Pager Plot: A Secret Weapon against Hezbollah

You might have heard about bombs in bags, but what about explosives inside pagers? Back in September, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave the green light for a sneaky assault on the Hezbollah terror group. The target? Thousands of modified pagers, distributed to Hezbollah members after their leader warned against using cellphones for fear of tracking. Imagine thousands of pagers suddenly heating up and blowing up in people's hands across Beirut and other Hezbollah strongholds. That's what happened. The blast killed 39 people and injured over 3, 400. Ouch! Israel didn't want to take credit for this at first, but Netanyahu's office eventually admitted it.

Now, what's interesting is that Netanyahu faced opposition from top defense officials and politicians. But he pushed ahead with the operation. The plan was to disrupt Hezbollah's communication and give them a fright. Hezbollah and the Lebanese government didn't like this one bit. They pointed fingers at Israel and promised revenge.
