Israel has decided to call up tens of thousands of reservists. This move is to boost their military operations in Gaza. The announcement was made by the army chief. It came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to keep the war going.

The conflict has been brutal. More than 52, 000 Palestinians have lost their lives. There are growing demands from within Israel. These demands are for a deal to bring home Israeli captives held in Gaza.  The goal is to end the war.  The war has been going on since October 2023. It has destroyed much of Gaza's infrastructure. The healthcare system is in ruins. Most of the 2. 4 million residents have been forced to move at least once.

The military chief made the announcement while visiting the Atlit naval base. He stated that the military will increase its operations. The goal is to destroy all of Hamas's infrastructure. This includes both above and below ground.

The security cabinet is set to meet. The cabinet will discuss expanding the war in Gaza. They will also talk about possibly resuming aid to Gaza. Humanitarian groups are warning of increased starvation. This is due to Israel's total blockade imposed in March.

Israel is facing global criticism. The conduct of its war in Gaza has been widely condemned. Far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir wants a "powerful" expansion of the war. He did not provide details on what new plans might involve. He demanded that Israel bomb "the food and electricity supplies" in Gaza.

Leading rights organizations, including the Red Cross, have warned of a humanitarian crisis. Palestinians are facing a "daily struggle to survive. " UN agencies report that aid convoys at the border are mounting. They have not been allowed into the enclave. A famine is looming.

Israel claims an expanded military offensive will pressure Hamas. The goal is to release the 59 remaining captives. Critics argue it further endangers their lives. Ending the fragile ceasefire has not led to any more releases.

The latest announcement comes as Netanyahu vowed to respond to Yemen’s Houthis. The Houthis fired a missile near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport. Six people were wounded. Several major airlines suspended flights. The Houthis said their attack was in support of the Palestinian people. They also wanted to counter Israel’s "crime of genocide" in Gaza.
