During this time, the number of abortions conducted by Planned Parenthood also rose by over 20%, reaching 392, 715 in 2022-2023. The federal government could follow suit and redirect funds to community health centers that provide comprehensive care without performing abortions.

The federal government needs to take action. This could include disqualifying organizations that perform abortions from federal healthcare spending and issuing guidance that affirms states' rights to exclude abortion providers from Medicaid.

The administration should also restore regulations that separate Title X funds from abortion activities and enforce the Weldon Amendment. Withdrawing funds from states that mandate abortion coverage could also be a step in the right direction.
